Glutathione is a naturally occurring tripeptide composed of L-glutamate, L-cysteine, and glycine, synthesized endogenously in nearly all mammalian cells. It functions biochemically as the primary intracellular low-molecular-weight thiol, with the cysteine residue's sulfhydryl group central to its redox chemistry.
