What it is

ARA-290 is a synthetic 11-amino-acid peptide derived from the tissue-protective domain of erythropoietin (EPO). Unlike native EPO, it does not activate the classical EPO receptor homodimer associated with red blood cell production; it instead binds the innate repair receptor, a heteromer of the EPO receptor and the beta-common receptor (CD131).

Research has examined ARA-290's anti-apoptotic and anti-inflammatory signaling through the innate repair receptor pathway, including models of small-fiber neuropathy, corneal nerve density, and tissue-protective responses to ischemic and inflammatory injury.
